The varsity girls’ soccer team had a rough season, with 1 win, 1 draw and 14 losses. But Coach Dennis Leach wasn’t too disappointed because of the obvious disadvantage of only having only seven high school players. The other 16 team members were middle schoolers.

Seventh-grader Makayla Russo agreed.

“It was challenging being a middle schooler playing on a high school team because all the teams were bigger than us and I felt like I was going to get trampled,” Makayla said.

The girls lost the first round of the district tournament to Sarasota Christian High School.

The junior varsity girls’ team didn’t have much luck either. They lost the only game they played, 3-1, to Labelle High School. Their other two games were cancelled due to scheduling issues.

The Most Valuable Player on the varsity squad was freshman Mackenzie Runyon. The Most Improved Player was freshman Grace Winchester. And the Rudy Award winner was seventh-grader Mia Pavesic.

Freshman Grace Winchester was named Most Improved Player on the varsity girls’ soccer team.

On the junior varsity, the Most Valuable Player was seventh-grader Alexis McRae. The Most Improved Player was eighth-grader Jordan Klass. And the Rudy Award winner was seventh-grader Alisha Aktayeva.

On to next year.

“Considering the youth of the squad, it was a season that was encouraging for the future of the program,” Leach said.
