Cars, food, and fun for students, their family and, even, their dogs — it was all there to be found at the 941 Street Culture Car Show.

But especially the cars. More than 70 cars of them provided by students, parents and sponsors lined the parking lot around the upper school cafeteria on March 25th.

The young Marines provided pulled pork, hamburgers and hot dogs. The band and choir provided the games: ring toss, tic tac toe, and one that got you a pie in the face.

Seniors Patrick Swales and Zack Sheldon organized the show, with help from Senior Advisor Derrick Cole.

“My favorite part about was the cars, especially the Chevelle,” said Mackenzie Hayes, a freshman.

The show has become an annual event. This is its third year.

Drivers paid $15 to enter a car in the show, and $10 to enter a motorcycle. Seniors used the money to help pay for transportation to the Senior Grad Bash at Universal.

Young Marines used their food sales profits to pay for items such as uniforms. And the band and choir game fundraiser will help pay for a trip to Disney World.

But the cars were the stars. Best in Show went to Jim Gortisas; Modern Muscle to Zae Merco; Classic Muscle to Darryl Jenkins, and High Performance to Chris Owens. None are students.

“The greatest thing about this car show is that Patrick and Zack do almost everything,” Cole said. “The success of the show lies squarely on their shoulders, and it’s a very successful show.”
